- Family: Myrtaceae
- Form: Small, evergreen coastal tree reaching 15-20 ft.
- Leaves: Elliptic, reflex upwards from midvein, rounded at base, acute apex, darker green on top, orange petiole. The leaves emit a somewhat offensive skunk-like odor
- Stem/Bark: Light brown to grayish in color, fairly smooth
- Flower: White, fragrant, multi-staminate, occuring in leaf axils
- Fruit: Incapsulated seeds found in round berry, reddish in color, turning dark purple
- Comments: Eugenia axillaris is one of four Eugenia species that are native to Florida. Easily distinguished by the distinct odor the leaves give off, acute apex and short pedicels
